Ellery Gutierrez: Life-like paintings

Ellery Gutierrez has been painting since he was a young child, inspired by the Renaissance artists of Italy whose work he discovered in art history books.

Such was his enthusiasm that he started out as a self-taught artist, experimenting with drawing before moving to Caracas, where he began taking courses in drawing and painting in various artist studios, specializing in still life and oil painting.

His large-scale, realist paintings of tropical fruits reveal his passion for light and color, which he uses in an accomplished and delicate manner to enhance the succulent nature of his chosen subjects.

Venezuela’s national flower, the orchid, also features prominently in his detailed and sensuous depictions. Gutiérrez has exhibited his work widely in Venezuela, participating in a range of group and solo exhibitions from 1993 to the present day.

Painted stones

There are few things in the world that I love the most. Rocks and painting are two of them. But put them together - and its an epic awesomeness that cannot be described in words.
Here is an awesome gallery i found on Flikr. these rocks are painted by Doris Epple, and the pictures are from a 1973 book from Germany.

Kinusaiga - silk mosaic

I was unable to find any information about this Japanese art or recycling old kimonos into silk paintings. The technique, from what I understand involves creating a painting, and transferring the sketch on a wooden panel. After that, selecting the colors of silk pieces, and cutting slivers of it to fill in the image.

The wooden panel then gets thin slits alongside the various details of the picture. the slivers of silk, then, are carefully wedged in those slits, "coloring" the panting". Sounds pretty lengthy work, but the result is amazing. The painting takes on a very unusual texture and clarity of detail. Precise and delicately beautiful, much like Japan itself.

Skia's foxes

Skia is a German artist, who is simply enchanting. I especially adore her foxes, who are, believe me, will force you to fall in love with them.

Maria's world of light

The artwork of Maria Kamenskaya seems to breath with light and joy. Talented illustrator and artist was born in 1983 in Rostov-on-Don, and now lives in Moscow.
I especially love her works with snails (of course).

Solar System's faces

Thomas Woodruff's artwork is indescribable. I can just stare and study each painting for a long long time. My favorite series is the Solar System. Each planet has a face, color, a personality. But wait, there is more - each face can be flipped to reveal a completely other face or a creature.
